Photography has always been a part of who I am. Nature and wildlife has always been a part of who I am. People and connections have always been a part of who I am.
For years, I found joy behind the camera, especially while photographing nature and wildlife. There is something special about freezing a moment in time—a sunrise that lasts only minutes, a bird taking flight, or a fleeting expression that may never happen again. Nature taught me to slow down and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us every day; photography taught me how to preserve the memory.
Several years ago, I officially started Janice Crago Photography with the dream of turning my passion into a business. My goal was to use the skills I had developed through years of photography to help families preserve their own meaningful moments and memories.
But life had other plans.
As my dad’s health began to decline, my focus shifted. The business was put on hold while during that chapter of our lives.
After losing my dad, I found myself reflecting not only on the memories we shared but also on the photographs we had together.
Like many photographers, I was usually the one behind the camera. I documented family gatherings, holidays, and everyday moments, but I wasn’t often in front of the lens myself. After he passed away, I realized there were far fewer photos of the two of us together than I wished there were.
The photos I do have are priceless.
That experience changed the way I view photography. I realized that photographs are not simply images. They become tangible connections to the people we love. They preserve smiles, personalities, relationships, and moments that can never be recreated. As time passes, their value only grows.
When I decided to relaunch Janice Crago Photography, I did so with a renewed sense of purpose.
My mission is to help families capture and preserve the moments that matter most—whether it’s a family session, a milestone celebration, a special life event, or simply a chance to document loved ones together as they are today. Too often, we assume there will be more time, another holiday, another gathering, another opportunity for photos. Sometimes there is. Sometimes there isn’t.
This belief also inspired the creation of the Moments to Memories Project, an annual complimentary photography event held in honor of my dad. Through this project, I provide free photo sessions for adult children and their parents because I understand firsthand how meaningful those photographs become. My hope is to give families something they will treasure for years to come.
Photography is about more than creating beautiful images. It’s about preserving stories, relationships, and memories that deserve to be remembered.
Thank you for being here and for allowing me the opportunity to help tell your story.
Because one day, the photos will mean more than you can imagine.
Take the photo while you can.
